Prayer of a Student

I found this when I was packing my stuffs.
This have been my prayer, it was pasted on my study table during my matriculation in Labuan.
I think this is a great prayer, meaningful and a very humble prayer.
I get it from somewhere, probably from the internet.

Here, I share it with all of you, may this prayer be an encouragement and comfort for you as university students.

Prayer of a Student

Oh loving and merciful God,
my whole existence depends on You.
I ask You to send your Holy Spirit into my heart and my mind.

Fill me with your grace, beyond my own personal strength,
so that I can dedicate the time and energy that I need to study.

Give me the strength to resist the distractions from studying.
When I am studying by myself, help me to remember that You are my companion,
and I am never truly alone.

Help my lecturers to explain things clearly.
Help me to respect them.
Help me to pay attention and listen well in class.

Give me the courage to ask questions when I don't understand.
Give me the humility to ask for help when I need it.
Help me to accept the grades that I get
after I have done all that I can do.

Give me the spirit of gratitude
for the privilege of studying in this university,
while most people in the world will never have such a rare opportunity.

Help me to make the most of the wonderful gifts you have given me,
and to return them to you with generosity.

You have been with me through rough times in the past.
Help me to trust that you are here with me now.

Give me hope for the future,
and help me to trust that, whatever the future brings,
You are already there waiting for me,
with your loving embrace.

I offer you this prayer through your Son,
My Lord, and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with You, forever and ever.

Amen.

3 questions to ask yourself

Usually when some we meet young little baby who start to learn to speak, the most common thing that we will tend to do is playing with the baby, either its a boy or girl and try to talk or communicate with him/her. I often noticed that the first question someone would ask most is

1)What is your name? or Who are you? 2)Where are you going? 3) What do you want?.

These three questions are the most frequent asked to a baby. And realize it or not, its one of the earliest questions that you and me are being asked by almost everyone that come in contact with us. Even when we are kid trying to buy some sweets, candy or groceries, we are often faced with this questions. So come to think of it, there must be something about these questions, why people often ask about it. So finally i realized that these three questions are the most important and most significant questions ever asked, during the period of where we began to learn take control of our life. This questions is so important that our answers to these determined our life. So let us look at these questions.

1) What is your name?
or Who are you?

Our name for us is so significant that it stick to us for the rest of our life. What does our name mean for us, is so important that it give us an image of ourself. Therefore our name accompanies us throughout our lifetime. The other questions that indirectly arise from asking about our name is "who are we?" or simply "who am I?". Remember Jackie Chan's movie entitled Who am I? how a "fresh" and "new" person with not much memory of his pass which make him more or less like a new born baby seek to know his identity. What we define our name, also define our characteristic, define OURSELF.

So as a person, we need to constantly remind ourselve this question, and the answer might not be the same but until you have really defined yourself, then the answers most probably remains the same forever. We need to know ourself first before others know us; we need to be able to create our own self-image. A positive self-image creates a positive you! and a positive image of yourself to your surroundings. Therefore, every time you look into a mirror and saw a reflection of yourself, you probably need to ask yourself again the same question and answer POSITIVEY about your own self.

No one is able to answer that question perfectly for you except yourself. Give a good impression to yourself, pat yourself at the back if you need it because you are a positive, you are beautiful as yourself, you are capable of uncountable great things, and you love yourself. When you have done this, you feel happier, energy starts to fill you up and you know you are capable. And most importantly, your values are created, and when you go out to work and live your life, it is derived and come out and the things that you will do all starts for your own definitions of "Who I am?" so this bring us to the second question. Remember this, the question, "who am I?" need to be so strongly and clearly defined, and it will be the most important question of our life, that is why often asked first. Because the answer to this particular question lead us and guide us to answer the next two important questions.

2) Where are you going?

When we are able to know who we are, we then realise, its not enough to only now "Who am I?", then we raised another question, "where am I going?".Our answers to these question determined our destinations in live, either we are going to our parents, or going towards some attractive toys across the room. These question give us destination of our life, and in other sense it mean that we are able to set where are we going, no one are able to set us our direction. Parents can guide or direct us, or sometime even forcing us into college, or course we did not want to but it is our choice to set our destination either to be the best student, to walk up on graduation day to receive awards or to be a slacker. The "destination" and the way we are going to reach it is our choice.

Therefore it is the best to make the best decisions, plan the best way to reach our destinations and start doing it so that we can reach it one day. When we are put into a new environment or location, either we like it or not, we still can decide on our answer to "where am I going?". Where are you heading is always your decision to make. No matter in good or bad situation you ought to make the best decision for yourself. After we set our destination, after we know where are we going, then the next question pop in.

3) What do you want?So what do you want?

This are the most frequent questions we ask others. Take note on your everyday life and see how many times this questions appear and being asked by you and to you. Probably you will find it that almost every questions start or somehow contain this question like "what?" or "what do you want?". Most importantly, its not what we want others to do for us is important, its what we want. There are many things in life, that we want after we set where are we going, then we start to think "what do I want?" and "what do I need to reach my destinations?". Therefore we start to imagine material stuffs, like money, a car or maybe a Mercedes, BMW, or private jet plane so that we reach our ultimate goal immediately which is to live like no one else, to enjoy like no one else, for most of us.

The third question is the most dangerous one, that's why it is often asked the last to a baby. It is so tricky and dangerous that our answer to it, will determine our fullness of life. When we start to imagine things that we want like money, various tools for us to get to our final destination we start to lose control and forget the answer to the first question, "who am I?". The most funny thing that I found out is that, when we imagine about the material things that we want, we often get more and more and it seems like no end to it, there must be something more, we think. And when we set our "wants" to material things, we start working for "things", we are no more the person we answered in the first question. Things seems more nicer, and getting better when we achieved things, when we get the things we want. One thing i realise, is when you want something so much, that eventually you become possessive, and this possessiveness start to make you loss control, make you start making shortcuts to reach your destination, make you think that you are in control of the things you have, you protect the things with your life instead of protecting your own values, yourself!.

You see, we have to realise that no a single thing or person that we are able to control. Everything is control by God, at this time you have it, it might be taken from you the next moment. Nothing! nothing in this world that we are able to control, including the things we owned. But there is one thing that we are able to take full time control, that is ourself. I am in control of myself, you are in control of yourself. I am in control of me, my body, my mind, my thoughts and my spirit. So do not want something that is material, instead want something that is benefit to yourself, which the values that defined you in the very first question. Want love, honestly, peace, happiness, and kindness. All you need is yourself, the one being that you can control. When you set your "wants" on good values like love, you work hard to reach love, to get love, to be love and to love. So you see, at here, we can get what we want all the time, we fight with our life, to defend "love", "peace", and "honestly let's say. These "wants" of us keep us close to ourself, to our original self and we are getting more control of ourself, we felt happiness flow constantly because we are being ourself, the person we at first intended to be. So dear friends, do not set your "wants" as something material, because it will never last and when we loss control of it, we became possessive. Instead, set your "wants" as some virtues, something you can control, something that keeps you as you, the things that defined you earlier. So when you get the right "wants" it motivates you, it keeps you away for sins and evils.

So in the end, it is these three questions that actually give us our "life". When we have the correct answers for our-self that we are able to live to the fullness of being ourselves, something that we desired at first. It is OK, when we made the wrong answers, because we can always ask ourself back the questions again until we are satisfy with the answers. In the end, it is YOU than define YOU.

Want

"Want, when you really want something, you develop a passion towards it, you start to form your personality towards it. Want without passion is just like an empty dreams, nothing, useless, it just a 'want;" -Ignatius, 2009

What is democracy?

picture taken from website of National Museum of Australia.

I watched this video on YouTube, they run a "what is democracy?" video competition, it's called the Democracy Challenge, Your voice your video. And found some nice videos on what is democracy is all about. I'll share some here...

This is a nice meaningful one. Well done.

The other one, a real nice cartoon, probably can be use to educate some young minds on what is democracy...

Well, come to think of it, I wonder what is democracy... So this is what democracy is to me?

Democracy is...
- People's power... its like empowering people.
- "Its not the government that should be governing the people, its the people that should be governing the government" one of my friend's dad told me this last year which I found is quite true.
- freedom of speech~!! of cause, we should always talk in a nice way as our parents taught us to, that's include no harsh or bad words and no shouting unless its necessary. Freedom of speech mean I can say what I think you can improve on, what's wrong with your governing and not get caught. Without the freedom of speech, there's no democracy.
- My country love me as I love my country, my country treat me fairly.
- "Rules of Law" the law is above all in the country, including the leaders, no one can escape and find excuse against the law. If you bombed someone with some explosive, you should be judged accordingly.
- Not "a personal matter"
- Freedom to choose.
- Human rights. Yes, democracy is a human right! Democracy is our rights.

What democracy is not...
- "A personal matter..." it's everyone's matter.
- "A personal matter..." when a beautiful foreigner is being raped.
- "You better shut the fuck up or I'll get you in jail..." it's "voice it out and you shall be heard."
- "You should listen to me!" it's "I shall hear from you..."
- "I pay you, you vote me" it's "Choose me if you think I can deliver, Please!"
- "I am alone talking here!" it's everyone talking, its everyone's country.
- "Your future is in my hands" it's "Our futures in in your hands"
- "Shut up you poor and dirty!" it's "Help me help you."
- "Its not we'll help you soon" it's "We'll help you now!"
- "I own this, its mine" it's "We own this, its ours!"
- "Oil price is rising, as a nett oil exporter country, we need to earn more" it's "as a nett oil exporter country how we can help our own people?"
- "Elections is near, what can we do?" it's "Elections is just over, what can we do?"

Ok... enough with that, I can get more ideas flowing out my minds right now.

So what do you think of Democracy? What democracy is?

Democracy is what we need

An interview with Ms. Jessie

I found no ideas to update my blog, and seen Ms. Jessie ask me to update my blog, I found a good reason to interview her for this post... haha...

Iggy: First question, What is your name?
Jessie: Jessica Bulding. friends call me Jessie or Jess

Iggy: Erm... so.. you have just finish ur study.. right?. give me 1 word that describe ur university
Jessie: Modern!
Iggy: Woah~! nice word. Why would you describe it as modern? any particular event or things about your university that make u think its modern?
Jessie: i think of all IPTA (not including the recent ones..kolej uni wch change into Uni)..unimas is modern in terms of designs and facilities.

Iggy: Wat is the most memorable thing about university for u... may it be an event, someone or something...
Jessie: I knew that you would have ask this... Well, too much memories actually.
Iggy: Well, well.. among the memory.. wat is the happiest one?
Jessie: Oh.. happy ones. hrmm... Let me think first... ... xmas dinner in jan 2009!
Iggy: I see, why would that be so happy about? I remembered you went with your boyfriend that time.
Jessie: cause it was my first experience performing in an event..and us getting closer..practicing for those songs. And most my boyfriend can make it for the event to see my performing. That's so wonderful and a great performance well done. Kris and Farhan were there, and all of us look as elegant as can be. And I sang a duet with the lovely Kathleen...a christmas song.."Little Drummer Boy".

Iggy: ok.. that's the happiest 1... how about scary.. any scary encounter in unimas? or supernatural event?
Jessie: supernatural encounter would be at the Unit Keselamatan.
Iggy: What happened?
Jessie: Me n Kris were there.. i was registering sticker for my car.. then there's a sound coming from a door nearby..like someone banging and playing with the doorknob. As for the most scary one will the about the thuderstorm in Unimas, where a girl was stuck by lightning.

Iggy: Well... would you consider yourself a good students back then?
Jessie: I think, i was a good student in terms of completing all the assignments, project and passing my exams.
Iggy: In other aspects?
Jessie: like other students, i bad-mouthed some lecturers but i never had the guts to confront them. then, i did broke some rules but considered not that serious.
Iggy: Which lecturer you dislike the most... dun mention the name.. but why u dun like him or her?
Jessie: that one.. haha.. because he looked down on some students and not that student-friendly

Iggy: Any sad memories? except the one separating from everyone.
Jessie: oh..oklah. when my kancil dilanggar org (hit by someone)and I was not even there.
Iggy: owh.. that's sad.

Iggy: how would you describe what you have learned in unimas?... Give me one word for Biotech.
Jessie: COMPLEX... no.. i think COMPLICATED would be more suitable.

Iggy: According to your experience... what is the five things that is necessary to survive in University?
Jessie: things? if i use values can?
Iggy: no necessary nilai nilai moral, can be things, or something or someone with certain characteristic or some values.. stuffs like tat.
Jessie: Of cause, No. 1 is sufficient money, to eat especially. Everyone knows, no food, no eat then die... Haha... No.2 Self-control.
Iggy: Why "self-control"?
Jessie: For example..if u wanna try something new and not necessarily good..u must know when to stop and consider what's better for yourself and everyone else around you. then, can avoid any beban (burden) to our dear parents also. Do it but with self-control.

Iggy: Ok.. what is the next thing for campus survival?
Jessie: No.3 the Key to ur apartment or hostel room.
Iggy: Haha.. why would you consider the key as the 3rd must have stuff?
Jessie: cause i pernah (ever) left my key in the room..at night. no staff to help..the felo is ehem,USELESS.

Jessie: No.4 is Laptop or PC, every students now would surely need that. and the Last one is Good friends to keep you sane!
Iggy: Haha... Well Ms. Jessie, would you like to dedicate this interview for all your good friend in your university life?
Jessie: Sure, to all my good friend. They will be reading this and they'll know.

Iggy: Well, Jessie, that's all for today interview, thank you very much.
Jessie: Thank you Mr. Chin.

First day of final semester

Well, today mark the first day of my final semester.

How I want my final semester to be? how? any suggestion readers???

Today I went to the first class of the final semester, which turn our that the lecturer is still on his sweet holidays. Therefore, no class. And Jessie bought this horoscope monthly planner book and showed me this...

Libra- The Lame One

Nice to everyone they meet. Their love is one of a kind. Silly, fun and sweet. Have own unique appeal. Most caring person you will ever met! However, not the kind of person you want to mess with... You might end up crying... Libras can cause as much havoc as they can prevent, faithful friend to the end. Can hold a grudge for years. Libras are someone you want on your side. Usually great at sports and are extreme sports fanatics.

I found most of the personalities are quite true as I know myself. I am nice to everyone I met but not become close immediatly. Silly... LOL.. ya.. silly... And I care for everyone, the poor and sicks but some people just do not want to be cared or just won't appreciate it or just helpless that they never learn. And hell ya! Libra are not the person you wan to mess with, you might end up crying... hehe... so don't mess with me when I am serious... I still can forgive easily but kinda hard to forget, cos I don't want to be hurt again or being said I am bad when actually I just saying out what I felt, I don't want it to happen and happen again, its either I am helpless or you're helpless or both. and true... if Libras is on your side, they will defend you till the end.. friends till the end. Well, I don't know other libras but I am like that. And I love sports... and yes... extream sports! I love it... but not extreme so much till can have big risk like life risk. I enjoy skate... speeds! I love speeds... hehe... by the way... That's me! And yeah... libras are smart! hehe... Expressive and Sensitives, kinda~...

“Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.”

- Brooks Atkinson (American journalish and critic)
~Happy New Year~

Well, another year have ended and I felt that time fly by so fast, really fast! last year new year was in kk, in a blink of an eye, its another new year again. Now, let's see what we had in 2008.

In 2008:

- My car got hit!

- The year where all Malaysian have a political tsunami... well, that's cool for me. We witness something new and see how each party will react.

- And the petrol price shoot up during June, for the first time, the most increase of petrol price in Malaysia history, 41% to be exact. And everything get more expensive, you really can feel it, last time RM50 is enough for a week, now, with reduce useage and spending, RM50 last around 5days like tat... tat's mean RM10 for each day, for 3 meals, that is if you didn't spent on any other things, it left you with RM3.33 for every meal. Hehe...

- Then in 2008, petrol price turun lagi... but if according to history, with the crude oil price now, we can afford to have even cheaper petrol in Malaysia. What went wrong here? its not RM1.85 per liter.. it should be RM1.10 or something like that.. The market oil price is even cheaper than before the tremendous increase of petrol price in June, that's mean, at least, it must be not more expensive then the price before June (RM1.70)... and What went wrong here?

- Then in 2008, for the first time, I choose and bought my own handphone. For the past, my hp is present for my parents, or I just exchange it with my sister. **wink wink**. And somewhere around July, when I just started the new semester, some desperate guy came into my room and took my phone and wallet. So what can I do, things have gone and so it left me a choice to get a new phone and I get to choose my own. Yesh! Sony Ericsson K800i! that's my choice, it have a good camera furnished by Sony Cyber-Shot. And I like it so much, cause I like to take picture everywhere I go.

- Then in 2008 also, can say, i enjoyed the most for my university life. Make some new frens... getting back with old frens. Go karaoke, dinner, and hang out with frens. Had my practical in KK, met some nice people there, make friend with my gf friends, met a great scientist too, stayed with a wonderful family there.

- Then in 2008, fight the most with gf, we learned about each other more. Argue with one of my friend a lot also, we fight, we cutted, we learn and hopefully it heal fast and make us know more.

- Then in 2008, I think many of my friend changed. To change is easy, to know that you've change and still keep and remember the past is a must, that's why we study history.

- So what else in 2008? But 2008 is a nice year... oh ya! in 2008! I started this blog!

- Well, the end of 2008 is not that much I've expected but its still ok with me... I'm cool with it, just let it be. But sad is that it will be the last year end with my university friends, well, something just didn't matter much for someone. But its ok... at least I've tried and I dreamt bout it. like sitting together at hartz, looking back the year, counting how many time we had hartz last year, seeing how each other changed physically and spiritually, someone really have been good this year and deserve a praise, looking back on what we have done together in the year and thinking on what we can do next year, then count down together or dance the nite out together. But its ok, like cinderella said... "A dream is a wish your heart made" and I've dream and I've tried. Problems come, problems go, we had cried, we had laught, we had fall, we had rise, we had failed, we had triumph, and we had start hopefully its not end.

- To you my friend, I praise you and I thank you. Thank you for everything I had this year, thank you for the good ones that I may cherish and remember, thank you for the bad ones that I might learn and be stronger, for most of all, Thank you, coz You're there. Amen.
And now... looking forward for all the great things and the fullness of life in 2009
